Course Prerequisites

To enroll, you should:

• Be at least 15 years old
  (Students ages 10–14 may enroll in a Private Open Water Course.)
• Be comfortable in the water
• Be in good general physical condition
• Have no previous scuba experience

Course Overview

Academics

Complete the classroom portion through PADI eLearning, allowing you to study online whenever and wherever it's convenient. Finish your academics before your first class so you're ready to maximize your in-water training.

Equipment

During the course you'll learn how to assemble, use, and care for essential scuba equipment including:

• Mask*
• Snorkel*
• Fins*
• Buoyancy Control Device (BCD)
• Regulator
• Scuba Cylinder
• Weight System

Personal Equipment Required

Students should provide:

• Mask

• Gloves

Orange County Divers provides the remaining scuba equipment needed throughout your training.

Pool Training

Develop your scuba skills in a controlled confined-water environment under the direct supervision of experienced PADI Instructors. You'll build confidence while mastering the fundamental skills required for safe and enjoyable diving.

Open Water Certification Dives

Complete four open water training dives at some of Southern California's premier dive locations while demonstrating the skills you've learned.

Upon successful completion, you'll earn your internationally recognized PADI Open Water Diver Certification.

Depending on ocean conditions, training dives may take place at locations such as:

• Shaw's Cove
• Laguna Beach
• Dana Point
• San Clemente
• Broadway Reef
