Designed as the bridge between recreational diving and full technical decompression diving, Tec 40 teaches you the knowledge, skills, and discipline required to safely conduct limited decompression dives while using advanced equipment configurations and procedures.

Whether you're planning to explore deeper wrecks, longer dives, or continue toward Tec 45, Tec 50, or Trimix training, Tec 40 is where your technical diving journey begins.

What You'll Learn

The Tec 40 course consists of:

• Seven knowledge development modules
• Four practical application sessions
• Four instructor-led training dives

During the course, you'll develop the skills and mindset required for technical diving, including:

• Technical diving risks and responsibilities
• Equipment configuration and redundancy
• Technical dive planning
• Decompression theory
• Gas planning and gas management
• Dive planning software
• Team diving procedures
• Technical communication techniques
• Emergency procedures
• Handling free-flow and out-of-gas situations
• Thinking like a technical diver

You'll also become qualified to conduct limited decompression dives to 40 metres / 130 feet using up to 50% enriched air (EAN50) as a decompression gas.

Tec 40 Trimix Option

Interested in reducing narcosis and improving breathing comfort at depth?

The Tec 40 Trimix option introduces the use of normoxic trimix containing:

• Minimum 21% oxygen
• Maximum 35% helium

Benefits include:

• Reduced nitrogen narcosis
• Lower breathing gas density
• Increased comfort during deeper dives
• Preparation for advanced Trimix training

Course Prerequisites

To enroll, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
• PADI Rescue Diver is recommended
• Be certified as a PADI Enriched Air Diver
• Be certified as a PADI Deep Diver or provide proof of at least 10 dives to 30 metres / 100 feet
• Have a minimum of 30 logged dives
• Submit a Diver Medical Form signed by a physician within the previous 12 months

Equivalent certifications from other recognized training agencies may also qualify.
